Attention : Dr. Mike Ushie Sir, AN OPEN REQUEST FOR MORE LIES AND FLIMSY EXCUSES FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF CROSS RIVER STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION, CROSIEC OVER THE PROTRACTED LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS.

In times like these, it's quite necessary to extend kind pleasantries and best wishes to all and sundry that intercepts one; mostly in the season of yuletide. It's sequel to the aforesaid, that I sincerely wish you a merry christmas and happy new year in advance. Do have the best celebration. Mr.  Chairman, I love to begin with formal introduction of my humble-self in order to clear any suspended and suspected doubts that might be encountered during the cause of you perusing this epistolary and help conserve the energy you would, perhaps dissipate to enquire who the writer is. Be it as it may, I write to convey to you and your commission not the assurances of my confidence as I had done orally the penultimate time; but to relay to you my concern, pains, worries and fears over the unfortunate and unfavorable vicissitudes orchestrated and perpetrated by you in the name of 'politrick' regarding the local government elections. Sir, I shall be addressing issues as ...

"GONE ARE THOSE DAYS" We now have our own.

A FACET OF "DE-LITE" BRINGS TO YOU Legally, Rights are legal, social or ethical principles of freedom or entitlement; that is; rights are fundamental normative rules about what is allowed of people or owned to people. It is in view of this that I want to bring to the notice of my land, my home and people of Yahe, that gone are the eras where people are intimidated and deprived of their right, gone are the time that my people's property are taken from them by force and no one could fight for them, gone are the days when our  business men and women struggled to get their businesses registered but couldn't find the right channel or person and may end up falling into the wrong hand, gone are the era when my people find it very difficult or too expensive to get a lawyer to defend them, gone  are the era where, your land are been taken from you by those that considered themselves powerful, gone are those days where the defenseless are been silent by the powerful due ...

HOW CHIEF JUSTICE WALTER S. N. ONNOGHEN AND CHIEF VICTOR NDOMA-EGBA SCUTTLED UNICAL'S 28TH JULY, 1995 SUG ELECTIONS.

TheScribe is on it again— unearthing fact from the archive. It pleases us in bringing the past closer to the present. That's why we're bringing the above your way. The present and the future are phases of life that rests heavily on the shoulder of history. The role (s) played by actors in the past are often forgotten; though recorded by time and somehow unearthed by sundry vicissitudes as TheScribe stumbled on the aforesaid. Let it roll! In 1995, the election into the nine offices of the Students' Union Government (SUG) in the University of Calabar was scheduled for 28th July, 1995 by the then electoral umpire, the Calabar University Electoral Commission (CUECO) and approved by University's authority. Few days to the D-day, the commission disqualified one of the acclaimed frontline contenders aspiring for the Union's top job as president.  He was a 300Level student of the Faculty of Law. An indigene of Cross River State by the name: Eja, Esege Elemi. Enrage...

A GIFT OF FLOWER TO THE IKABA FOUNDATION

"No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable ". " To feel much for others and little for ourselves; to restrain our selfishness and exercise our benevolent affections constitute the perfection of human nature ". The above quotes by one of the greatest thinkers ever lived;  a journalist and world acclaimed father of the science of political economy,  Adam Smith are certainly poised  to create the path in which readers of this piece would be strolling upon as it relates to the humanitarian services of Ikaba Foundation in an egalitarian society like ours. To that extent, it delights me to take the lead. In a while, the Ikaba Foundation, a child brain of the State Security Advisor (Adviser), SSA to governor of Cross River State, Mr. Jude Ngaji has, since its inception, made tremendous impact on the health, academics and economic well-being of most residents and indigenes of Cross River St...

Why Declan Ogar Genesis is a Fit for the Job, TheScribe xray

YALA LGA ELECTIONS : DECLAN OGAR-GENESIS IN FOCUS As the countdown to the 2017 Cross River State local government elections continue to generate bubbles,  TheScribe with its radar in continuation of beaming its searchlight at the aspirants/candidates vying for the most coveted LGA position is once again here with the image on the radar screen. Our focus at this juncture is Mr. Declan Ogar-Genesis. Frequent users of social media, precisely facebook would agree with TheScribe that on daily basis, the airwaves is continually flooded with campaign pictures and pre-electoral manifestos which Declan's pictures and promises during his consultations are equally causing online gridlock. In every election, they're pretenders and contenders — and one thing that differentiate them is the level of seriousness demonstrated by them. If seriousness is a factor one should consider in knowing who's prepared in contesting election, then Mr. Declan is indeed ready. His readiness and p...

The Economic Value of NorthFest, Ogar Emmanuel replies Inyali Peter

I doubt in my mind if there exists any policy in Ayade Government that is not open for criticisms especially by agents of the opposition. You will agree with me that the major factor militating against the progress and development of the Northern district of the State and indeed other adjunct Local Government Areas like Boki, Ikom, Etung Obubra etc. is the location of the State capital in far away Calabar. The proximity disavantage has always hindered the spread of development of these areas. The former Gov. Donald Duke brought carnival in Calabar, the State capital to turn around the economic fortunes of the Southern district of the state. Cross River State today celebrates the Biggest Street Party in Africa while the people of the Southern extraction of the State are direct beneficiaries. Apart from that, ex Gov. Duke extended the same entertainment acumen to the Central district of the State to popularise the traditional festival known as Leboku which hitherto was celebrated as...

A Lesson Every Parent Must Learn from Joy Odama's Demise~Ogar, Emmanuel Oko writes;

THE OTHER SIDE OF JOY ODAMA'S DEATH : LESSONS NOT LEARNT YET. Photo credit: Google.com The death of beloved ones is something that only the grace of God can bring solace to the bereaved. The pain is often psychologically excruciating mostly when the person is beaming with bright future but snatched by the brawny hand of death at his or her prime. It's always depressing and saddening. Since the death of Joy Odama, a promising undergraduate of Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH in uncouth and blameworthy circumstances in the hands of an impostor-bloodthirsty philanthropist in the federal capital, Abuja; peace hasn't being itself to many folks. Her demise has lured pool of standing spring on the cheeks of her sympathisers. As days passes by, it hasn't cease raining from their eyes. Her untimely departure is indeed an irreplaceable loss just like any loss been or yet to be. The grace of God is surely their dependable solace. Since the sojourn of man on ...

A MALABITE: SHRUNKEN BY CALIFORNIA CORN FLAKES

Prof. as he’s fondly called was a brainy student who was full of life with the sparkling of youthful agility. He swam across the boisterous and tempestuous Oron River without the fear of its deluge to acquire higher education in the famous University of Calabar— all in the quest of becoming an illustrious son of his family and the immediate society. Sadly, his dreams and the expectations of his people now wallows in the miry clay of psychosomatic oddness. Prof. and most of us were in Unical. We were residents of Malabo Republik (c). I was staying in room 201 in Hall5 that equally housed him. He was in the stock of the core Malabo boys whose aksions (actions) weren’t overlooked though not always reasonable as the slogan were and is, as it stance. ‘Real Malabites and Malabresses (those living in Malabo and female hostels) knew him. His adopted name, Prof. rang like church-bell. In the domain of campus entertainment, he was there to rap like Tupac. When the likes...

THE GOVERNOR’S MISCALCULTION AND HIS FIRST TERM FAILURE

John Maxwell in 21 Laws of Leadership says: “A leader is one who sees more than others see, who see further than others see and who sees before others see”. According to African proverb, “When the frog in front fall into the pit. Those behind take caution”. The two quotes above are deliberate conundrums for the nitty-gritty of the would-be piece. It’s psychologically established that one of the most hardest and arduous jobs in the world, is the job of leadership— that’s leading human beings with the same brainpower as anyone. Many times, or perhaps always, leaders aren’t the most intelligent constituent members of the society. Therefore, they aren’t exempted from making mistakes and miscalculate. Unfortunately, most of them believes that the authority and power they wield could cover-up genetic and intellectual imperfections. No! No! Experience shows that it’s a commonplace observing in our nation that serious governors in the 36 states of the federation go all-out to etch thei...

FRANCIS BACON AND THE NIGERIAN CORRUPT PUBLIC SERVANTS: LEARNING FROM HISTORY by Ogar Emmanuel Oko

Corruption is one of the most commonest and frequently used words in the English lexicon amongst the classes of Nigerian politicians, businessmen, professionals and the rest of the populace. Since the advent of democracy, each government dissipates a lot of energy and resources in establishing new law enforcement institutions to combat or attenuate the monstrous enemy of moral and social development called corruption. In 2000, the Obasanjo-led federal government established Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC on Tuesday June 13 to wage war against corruption. Approximately two years later, perhaps, not too pleased with the achievements of the agency in combing the menace, he, through the Act of Parliament established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on 14 Dec,. 2002. The Commission’s duties includes to investigate financial crimes like Advance free fraud; Money laundry, Counterfeiting, Illegal charge transfer, Future marke...

AN OPEN LETTER TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS

By Egbara Emmanuel Ikaba. @Ikababaegbara@gmail.com. 12/07/2017. Are you angry that you don’t have a job and access to services? Are you angry that poverty and suffering have become the order of the day? Are you angry that you seek your government’s audience and none is coming? This communique my fellow youth recommends the serious interrogation and critical rethinking  of structures, processes  and mechanics of engagement regardless of our gender, religion, political persuasions in the Nigeria policy formulation and implementation landscape. Nigeria  is ONE and we are ONE so admittedly, 2019 election is a watershed election for Nigeria. Whatever the outcome, a major question that needs serious interrogation is what is there in the election for the young people of Nigeria? There is a bigger picture that needs looking at.  What does victory or defeat for the contesting political parties imply for the development or underdevelopment of Nigeria ? Our se...
